Systems development engineer Dominic Giambo introduces new IT strategies for mixing it up between functions in the cloud and functions onsite. He discusses pros and cons of each and gives simple IT changes broadcasters can implement immediately, from containing audio playout in a virtual machine to controlling workflows from several locations in one app. Dominic walks us through strategies for making the most of existing infrastructure and provides a step-by-step approach for scaling up to cloud or across regional WANs using containerization and new AoIP virtual engines adapted specifically for broadcasting. Finally, he gives real-world examples of stations scaling back hardware infrastructure in favor of a more flexible IT infrastructure that uses a combination of appliances and apps.
