Vice President, Safety Policy at Alliance for Automotive Innovation

Scott A. Schmidt is the Vice President responsible for vehicle safety and regulatory affairs at the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) where he oversees policy development relating to vehicle safety performance, driver distraction, advanced technologies for traffic safety, electric vehicle/battery safety, as well as international harmonization of regulatory requirements. Scott joined Auto Innovators in 2020 transitioning from 20 years at the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.  He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1987 from the University of Maryland where he started his involvement in automotive engineering through participation in SAE student vehicle design competitions and student research into ATV rollover and tire testing.  Since then, he has held automotive engineering positions encompassing regulatory (NHTSA), vehicle testing (IIHS), alternative fuels (EA Engineering), military vehicles (VSE), regulatory compliance (Land Rover) and his current passion automotive safety.
