Associate Professor at Alpen-Adria-Universitat Klagenfurt

Christian Timmerer is an associate professor at the Institute of Information Technology (ITEC) and is the director of the Christian Doppler (CD) Laboratory ATHENA. His research interests include immersive multimedia communication, streaming, adaptation, and quality of experience where he co-authored seven patents and more than 200 articles. He actively participated in ISO/MPEG work for several years, notably in MPEG-DASH where he also served as standard editor. In 2013 he cofounded Bitmovin to provide professional services around MPEG-DASH where he holds the position of the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) –- Head of Research and Standardization. In 2021, Bitmovin was among the 72nd annual Technology & Engineering Emmy® award recipients for the development of massive processing optimized compression technologies. In 2022, MPEG is among 73rd annual Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award recipients for the standardization of HTTP encapsulated protocols (incl. MPEG-DASH).
